Promoting Student athletics

Opened in January of 2006, the Hynes Athletic Center added state of the art athletic facilities for intercollegiate recreational and intramural programs. The $13 million project is the second critical project of Iona’s expansion program donated while Mr. Hynes was Chairman of the Iona's Board of Trustees. "The Hynes family's presence, leadership and philanthropic support of Iona College is legendary and a living example to us all.  The Hynes Athletic Center has been an essential addition to the college community." Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D., President of Iona College.

Promoting Innovation & Technology

Prior to the launch of The Hynes Foundation, Ms. Hynes has funded projects that promote the career advantages of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)  education in both secondary and collegiate institutions. Her donations have been given to Catholic institutions to help students prepare for a workforce which requires higher level thinking skills and promotes problem-solving that leads to effective leadership.  According to Ms. Hynes,  "The impetus for these donations is the recognition that STEM learning imparts a skill set that gives students higher level thinking skills leading to future success."

Promoting digital Learning

Ms. Hynes provided the balance of funding to purchase hardware to complement the NYS Department of Education's Chromebooks for Education project. "We have been able to furnish a computer lab and purchase Ipads which enables the students at our inner city all-girls high school to have easier access to resources.   Proper technology integration allows us to look forward to seeing our AMSU students advance to the 21st Century successfully."  Sr. Jeanne Humphries, OSU, Principal,Academy of Mt. St. Ursula
